AMD's Athlon X2 7750 BE Reviews Pour In

Tags: AMD | Athlon X2 7750 | Black Edition | cpu | hardware | review

Athlon X2 CPU LogoIt seems that everyone just got their Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition CPUs to review.  Reviews are starting to hit the editorial desk en-masse.

What's the deal, you might ask, with another 2.8Ghz clocked AMD Athlon CPU?  Haven't we seen this somewhere before?

Ah, but this one is a new step up the architecture food chain.  While it's still not on-par clock for clock with Intel's Core 2 Duo CPUs, this dual-core sporting chip is based on the Phenom B3 core.  The one with the fix for that nasty TLB bug that featured so promenently in the original release reviews.

So what we've got here is a slightly castrated Phenom processor clocked at relatively the same speed as the old K8 core CPUs.  But will the Black Edition's unlocked cores make it a worthy successor to the current low-cost champions?  That's the real question.

There's also the question of how long AMD will be able to continue loosing large quantities of money every fiscal quarter in the current down-trending marketplace.  Only time will tell if their cost-undercutting war against Intel will pay off.

So, without further commentary, the reviews: Cameron Johnson @ TweakTown, AJMatson @ Overclockers Club, Hilbert Hagedoorn @ Guru3D, and Richard Swinburne @ Bit-Tech
