Radeon fglrx Driver lock_aquire "Bug"

Tags: bug | driver | fglrx | kernel | linux | radeon

Tux the penguin, sittingCurrently there's an incompatibility in the default configuration of many Linux kernels with AMD's closed source Radeon driver.

Kernel symbol lock_aquire is marked "GPL Only", so that when you go to compile the Radeon fglrx driver from AMD you'll get the error message GPL-incompatible module fglrx.ko uses GPL-only symbol 'lock_acquire'.  You can work around this problem by using a kernel (or recompiling yours) that has the options for "Lock debugging" under kernel hacking turned off.

This was tested on the latest 2.6.25 series kernel, 2.6.25.20.

Note that it still doesn't get Fedora Core 9 working. Apparently there's an additional incompatibility with fglrx and the version of Xorg they're shipping.
